Does anyone have any experience using a barcode scanner on the Avimark product? I am
curious as to how well it works, where it works (i.e. inventory, POS, purchase orders,
etc...). Also, is there anything special you need to do to integrate the scanner with
Avimark? How does Avimark know when to use the barcode?

Thank you for any help you can provide,
Ken

We ordered the barcode scanners from Avimark, so that they would be sure to work with things. We use them for retail, food, etc. They work just fine--as long as you set the codes up in the inventory by scanning them in.

Works really good on an array of retail product that would be too difficult to keep up with codes for keying in.

We use a Metrologic Voyager MS9540 and the Metrologic Voyager BT MS9535. The latter is Bluetooth (wireless), which is handy. They were quite easy to setup (no special integration equip needed; Bluetooth adapter not needed as the BT communicates with the base unit, not the computer directly) and have had no problems since we bought them a year ago. We use them for retail and food sales mainly.

To start with you'll enter the appropriate barcode on each inventory item. The best way to do this is to open the Change Item window and click in the UPC field and then scan the barcode and it will enter it in this field automatically. When you sell or dispense the item, you'll open the Enter Medical History window and click in the Code field and then scan the item. Then hit Tab on the keyboard and it will fill in the other information for you. In the Scanner software you'll need to set the option to Tab after scanning rather than Enter after scanning. If you plan to scan items in the SOAP, you'll will need to set the scanner to only scan 8 characters. If you are only using the scanner to enter items in medical history, you can use up to 15 characters. You can scan items in from a purchase order but the process is tedious so it's faster to just create the purchase order and receive it normally.
