Subject :Working with rescue organizations -> HUGE number of animals on client record

I'm the IT support person for a small vet practice... we just upgraded from
the DOS version of Avimark to the Windows version (new hardware too!).

One of the clients is a local rescue organization. Under that client, they must have
over 1000 animals. If anybody opens this client, ALL the workstations slow to a crawl.

1. How can we fix this to avoid the massive slow-down?

2. Is there a better/preferred way to handle this situation in the new software?

Thanks--

Cris,

Before opening the account, clicking Clients, List Patients to have the view as a list instead of individual tabs might speed up the opening a little bit. In general, with large rescue accounts, most clinics will make a Rescue Organization 2010, Rescue Organization 2011, etc. to have the patients for only one year be on the account. Also, if a patient is adopted, moving it to the new owner instead of recreating it should help as well.

Good luck with the transition from Dos to Windows version, and I hope the clinic enjoys all the newer features!

You could also create a second account for the organization, and move all of there deceased or inactive patients over to that one. We have to do that with some of our breeder files.

Thanks all... the folks at the office ended up breaking the records down and creating
client-by-year accounts.
