We are in the process of going paperless. One of the problems we have is when posting from the whiteboard. If a Dr. schedules a patient to receive a Pill twice a day, when the technicians post the code to from the whiteboard to Medical History it charges for the pill and the prescription fee every time the pill is given. I would like to be able to charge for just the pill.

The problem is that the inventory code for the medicine is used in house for hospitalized patients (no need to charge a dispensing fee) and for dispensing the medication (want to charge the fee). I do not want to create new treatment codes for each medication we currently carry in the hospital. This would be redundant and confusing to the staff.

Does anyone have a solution?

What if you filled the prescription and then had a separate treatment code for administering medication?

There is an Advanced Option for Additional Fee under Prescriptions. If that is set to 0 for Prescriptions, the fee will only be charged one time per visit. I am not sure if this would help as some clinics prefer to charge the fee per each medication prescribed.

Barring that, having a dispensing treatment (single treatment) that you could link inventory as needed to would be the best solution currently.

My solution has been to do one dispense medication for the duration of the patients hospitalization and to use a treatment code which I enter for each for administration of the medication.

The problem I encounter with using one treatment code is:
Lets say the treatment reads..."Adminster Medication: __________" so that we can feel in the blank when the code is used. Currently a Dr puts this code into the medical condition chart and then a technician posts it to the white board.

As teh dr types in the medication name and puts it ont he medical condition chart, the medication name gets deleted. So a technician would have no idea what medication we are talking about.

We don't really use the "schedule" part of the whiteboard, but will it allow you to click on the description and change the name?

Terina,

Yes, you can double-click on the entry and modify the name.
