AVImark first arrived in South Africa due to the pioneering attitude of Dr. Derrick Lilienfeld, who realised a need for progressive veterinary management software in the country. Dr. Lilienfeld’s professional & management needs were not adequately satisfied with the local software options. While visiting in the USA, Dr. Lilienfeld was introduced to AVImark and recognised this as the solution.

He then contacted the CEO of McAllister Software, and purchased the first licence for AVImark to be used in South Africa.

Following the implementation of AVImark at the Westville Veterinary Hospital, more clinics in South Africa showed interest in the software. As a result of the growing interest, as well as a gap in the veterinary software market, Steve McAllister decided to open a South African office.

In June 2002, GlobalVet was first launched in South Africa. The rebranded software was given minor alterations to suit the South African environment, such as currency & VAT.

The South African office, Sugar Creek Software Systems, then proceeded to market & support GlobalVet as a sister company of McAllister Software Systems. In July 2010 GlobalVet was rebranded as AVImark.
